He then worked as an associate at Latham & Watkins LLP’s New York office from 2021–25. In its news release, Miller Thomson said this role equipped Ahmed with experience in complex and multi-jurisdictional public and private M&A, initial public offerings, private placements, and strategic advisory mandates.
“Abid’s strong network of US and global relationships will be an important resource for our clients and our team,” said Jay Hoffman, chair of Miller Thomson’s national business law group, in the news release.
Ahmed’s biography on Miller Thomson’s website said he has assisted companies, private equity firms, and financial institutions on domestic and cross-border transactions, including venture financings, special situations, shareholder activism, corporate governance, strategy, and general corporate matters.
The firm noted that he has provided pragmatic and business-oriented advice reflecting his deal experience on both sides of the border.
“Our group remains focused on growing our cross-border practice,” Spearn said.
Ahmed’s work has spanned technology, consumer products, energy, fintech, financial services, and other industries.
According to the firm’s news release, Ahmed actively supports underprivileged entrepreneurs through his pro bono practice. He has mentored and championed first-generation professionals.
Ahmed joined the Ontario bar in 2018. He also belongs to the New York bar.
