The new partners offer experience in structuring and financing projects and in M&A
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP’s power group has brought in Vivek Bakshi and Jamie Thomas as new partners based in Toronto.
Both hail from Dentons. Bakshi is a specialist in structuring and financing major power and natural resource projects, while Thomas concentrates on complex mergers and acquisitions deals related to energy transition and infrastructure. The firm noted that they add considerable transactional and regulatory experience in the Canadian and international energy markets.
Bakshi has tackled domestic and cross-border M&A transactions in the oil, gas, water and power sectors. He has worked on the development, operation and acquisition of both projects and portfolio companies in regulated electricity markets.
He has also handled independent power projects involving renewable energy sources. Moreover, he has spearheaded transactions related to onshore and offshore petroleum development.
Bakshi’s clients have included sponsors, developers, offtakers, and service providers. In addition, he has represented the developers of liquefaction facilities and LNG buyers and sellers on issues across the LNG value chain and in relation to regasification terminal capacity rights.
He has practised in London and Tokyo and brings experience from Europe, the Middle East, Southeast Asia, and the Far East. The Lexpert-ranked lawyer started his legal career in Canada with Blakes.
Bakshi was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2009 and was admitted as a solicitor in England and Wales in 2000.
Thomas has headed up significant renewable, storage and natural gas deals in Canada. In addition to M&A, he focuses on private equity and corporate finance.
He has worked with overseas and domestic institutional and private equity financial sponsors, public and private corporations, sponsors, developers, offtakers, and service providers. He has advised on domestic and international investments and on natural resource and energy transition projects.
He is part of the Law Society of Ontario, the Ontario Bar Association, and the Canadian Bar Association. He was admitted to the Ontario Bar in 2015.
