Blakes welcomes tax partner Jeffrey Love in Toronto

Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP (Blakes) has announced the appointment of Jeffrey Love, who has assisted investment funds and financial services companies with income tax matters for over 15 years, as a tax group partner in the Toronto office. 

“With his deep sector expertise and practical approach, Jeff further strengthens our ability to deliver best-in-class solutions and strategic counsel to our clients,” said Paul Stepak, national leader of the firm’s tax practice group, in a media release. 

Love focuses on diverse asset management structures, such as mutual funds, exchange-traded funds (ETFs), pooled funds, and pension funds. He helps clients navigate tax dispute resolution and complex income tax planning strategy execution. 

“I am delighted with this opportunity to advise investment funds and financial services clients on their most complex tax issues as a member of the market-leading Blakes Tax group,” Love said in the media release. 

In its media release, the firm stated that his tax law experience spans private equity, banking, capital markets, and pension fund investments. 

“Jeff’s arrival enhances our ability to deliver practical solutions and strategic counsel to our clients,” the firm said in a LinkedIn post.

Prior experience

Love’s LinkedIn page provides information on his professional background before joining Blakes. 

At KPMG Law LLP in Toronto, he worked as a partner from October 2022 to September 2025 and as an associate from April 2018 to September 2022. 

At BMO Financial Group in Toronto, Love was senior manager taxation, wealth, from November 2016 to April 2018 and manager, PCG and P&C taxation, from January 2014 to October 2016. 

He served as a tax associate at McCarthy Tétrault LLP in Toronto from August 2008 to January 2014. 

Love’s biography on the Blakes’ website states that he belongs to the Canadian Bar Association, the Ontario Bar Association, the Canadian Tax Foundation, and the Law Society of Ontario. 

He contributes to the Canadian ETF Association’s taxation committee, the Securities and Investment Management Association’s taxation working group, and the Portfolio Management Association of Canada’s industry regulation and tax committee. 

Love earned admission to the Ontario bar in 2008. From Queen's University, he obtained his LLB in 2007 and his BSc (honours) in engineering physics – mechanical in 2003.
