Hydro One Networks Inc.’s legal counsel for corporate finance and securities, Alexis Eun Young Choi, has been announced as the new president of the Federation of Asian Canadian Lawyers Ontario.

She stepped into the role in June after having been a member of the organization since she was a law student. She was named the organization’s secretary in July 2022 and subsequently appointed FACL’s treasurer in June 2023, a role she held until May of this year.

Choi has championed the progression of equity, diversity, and inclusion in the profession as co-chair of the conference and gala, mentorship, and strategic planning committees. She became FACL’s mentorship committee chair in July 2022 and co-chaired the same committee beginning June 2023 until she became conference and gala committee chair in September 2024.

She has worked with Hydro One for over five years, having commenced with the Ontario electricity transmission and distribution utility in July 2020 as an articling student according to LinkedIn. Her practice focuses on securities, corporate finance, and real estate law.

Choi received her JD in law from Osgoode Hall Law School at York University that year. Before going into law, she operated in project management for the Canadian Alliance of Physiotherapy Regulators. Moreover, she is on the board of directors of Orchestra Toronto and was on the board of YWCA Toronto.

Choi confirmed that she would continue FACL’s initiative to offer engagement, professional development, and mentorship opportunities.

“Looking ahead, we will continue these initiatives and implement new ones to amplify our advocacy, expand programming for different career stages, increase accessibility through virtual programming, strengthen community building and partnerships through collaborations with other organizations, and strive for operational excellence,” she wrote in her message to the organization.

Choi leads FACL alongside vice-president external David Spence Valenzuela, vice-president internal S.B. Light Go, secretary Annie C. Hu, treasurer Kate Yau, and directors Allyson Lee, David Ang, David How, Hillson Tse, Jennifer Sun, Jessica Chan, Kenneth Yau-Wing Jim, Megan Mah, Robert Shek, Steven Wang, Veenu Goswami, Victoria Yang, and William Wu.

FACL is a non-profit association of Asian Canadian legal professionals advocating for equity, justice, and opportunities.
