She has worked both in private practice and in-house for over 25 years
Blake, Cassels & Graydon LLP has welcomed former CPA Canada general counsel Brenda Doig as senior advisor for its women’s programming and initiatives.
She will focus on progressing the firm’s Women@Blakes programming, which offers leadership development, mentorship, and community-building opportunities. She will develop and implement programs supporting and empowering women both internally and among clients.
“I am inspired by this incredible opportunity to support the advancement of women in law. It is energizing and exciting to build on the important strides Women@Blakes has made in helping to meet the evolving needs of women in the profession,” Doig said in a statement.
Doig brings links to the women general counsel community and her experience with general counsel and board communities in Canada. She has worked across private practice as a litigator and in-house for over 25 years.
While operating in-house, she worked with professional services, financial services, and regulatory organizations to grow and develop teams she spearheaded. She began her legal career with Torys LLP as an associate before transitioning to a role as legal counsel at College of Physicians and Surgeons of Ontario, according to LinkedIn.
Doig made the jump to TD in 2013, where she was senior counsel (global contracts); senior counsel, advisor to the general counsel and senior vice president, legal; and global external counsel management and risk. She received her GCU.D from Women’s General Counsel University and her GPC.D from the Governance Professionals of Canada.
She has volunteered with moot courts, trial advocacy workshops, legal ethics educational programs, mentoring programs, and the First Generation Network. Moreover, she co-led a fundraising and awareness campaign for the United Way Greater Toronto.
“Brenda’s inclusive leadership, business law background and people focus make her a powerful ally for our lawyers and clients”, Blakes chair Geoff Beisher said in a statement.
Doig will collaborate with senior advisor Alison Jeffrey on the Women@Blakes programming transition. Doig operates from Blakes’ Toronto office.
