Lerners LLP has announced the launch of Lerners Healthcare Champions (#LHCC), an initiative recognizing the contributions and efforts of Southwestern Ontario-based healthcare and rehabilitation workers exemplifying the attributes of commitment and service, said a news release dated Apr. 8.

This winter, the firm announced the new program with a call for nominations, which was followed by a selection and voting process. The firm received more than 20,000 votes for the nominees from communities across Southwestern Ontario.

On Apr. 15 at 6:00pm, Lerners and its partners held the Lerners Healthcare Champions Virtual Awards Gala, a free online event featuring interactive programming, a hall of champions and musical performances from Alexander Saint, Logan Staats, Alli Walker and Sarina Haggarty. The top five recipients were rewarded with a $5,000 donation made to their chosen charity.

In the news release, Graham Porter, the firm’s chairperson and London managing partner, said that the firm decided to establish the new initiative to recognize those in the healthcare and rehabilitation sector who contribute to communities in the region in the same spirit of service and citizenship to which the firm has committed.

“Lerners has a long tradition of contributing our time, resources, and energy to making the communities we serve more vibrant and stronger,” said Porter. “We think that helps make us better lawyers, and better citizens.”

Lerners LLP said that the healthcare and rehabilitation community in Southwestern Ontario, which may consist of their family members, friends and neighbours, has expanded over the years and has received recognition.

“Although COVID has and is a major part of all of our lives, the finalists and award recipients were not chosen for a one-year commitment to our community – they have volunteered their time and energy for many years,” said the firm’s news release.

Lerners LLP, which is based in Southwestern Ontario and which has offices in London, Toronto, Waterloo Region and Strathroy, has a 90-year history and over 120 lawyers.
