McMillan adds Christie Gibson to partnership

McMillan has announced the addition of municipal and environmental law expert Christie Gibson to its partnership in Toronto.

She joins the firm’s municipal, land use planning, and development practice. She concentrates on dispute resolution and has spearheaded appeals related to municipally-initiated instruments, parkland dedication, heritage and environmental concerns, property assessments, and affordable housing and inclusionary zoning policies.

Annik Forristal, co-lead of McMillan’s national infrastructure and construction group, highlighted Gibson’s experience with redevelopment applications. Gibson has advised clients across all stages of the applicable approvals processes, including Official Plan amendments, rezonings, plans of subdivision, site plan approvals, consents and minor variances, and post-approval negotiations.

Gibson has appeared before the Ontario Land Tribunal and courts on behalf of public and private sector entities.

“She is a valuable addition to our municipal, land use planning, and development group and will contribute to the deep bench strength and business solutions we offer clients at all stages of a development project,” Forristal said in a statement.

Gibson is also a mentor with the Osgoode Women’s Network. She has led an annual CPD event geared towards female lawyers. Moreover, she has chaired and been part of the steering committees for the Ontario Bar Association municipal law section, Cambridge Forum on Land Use Planning for Emerging Leaders and 3rd Generation events, ULI’s women’s leadership initiative, and ULI’s mentorship committee. She is an active member of the Building Industry and Land Development Association and the Urban Land Institute.

She made the jump to McMillan from McCarthy Tétrault, where she was a partner per LinkedIn. She also made partner at Cassels Brock & Blackwell LLP, where she spent more than eight years of her career.

In addition, Gibson spent time at Overland LLP and articled at Dentons.

McMillan’s municipal, land use planning, and development group is integrated with its commercial real estate and construction groups.
