The Law Foundation of Ontario has appointed Adair Goldblatt Bieber LLP managing partner Jordan Goldblatt to the Class Proceedings Committee.

Goldblatt has served as defence counsel and class counsel. He maintains a strong class proceedings practice and has acted for licensed professionals, professional associations, insurance companies, and private and public corporations.

He has represented clients before Ontario judges, juries, and arbitrators. He has worked on issues involving general commercial, insolvency, product liability, professional responsibility, administrative, and public law litigation.

Moreover, Goldblatt was a trial advocacy instructor at Osgoode Hall’s Intensive Trial Advocacy Workshop. He has presented at Law Society of Ontario, Advocates Society, Canadian Bar Association, and Ontario Bar Association conferences.

He is a Litigation Counsel of America Fellow; the trial advocacy society is invite-only and consists of less than half of one percent of American lawyers. He was with Lenczner Slaght LLP and Goldblatt Partners LLP before helping to establish Adair Goldblatt Bieber.

Goldblatt was ranked by Lexpert as a recommended litigator in defamation and media, corporate commercial, and regulatory and public law.

“Jordan brings an extensive breadth and depth of litigation expertise, in particular in class actions, as well as diverse experience in public interest matters. He will be a great addition to the committee,” said committee chair John Brown, who is also McCarthy Tétrault’s legal and strategic advisor for Indigenous initiatives, in a statement.

Goldblatt takes the place of Monique Jilesen, who wrapped up a three-year term with the committee that started in October 2022.

The Class Proceedings Fund and Committee were both launched in 1992 in line with a Law Society Act amendment. The fund is used to support approved class action plaintiffs for legal disbursements and indemnifies plaintiffs for costs that may be awarded against them in funded proceedings, according to the committee.

The Class Proceedings Committee determines the applicants eligible for funding. It comprises five members; three are appointed jointly, one by the Law Foundation of Ontario, and one by the Ontario attorney-general.

The Law Foundation of Ontario established the Class Proceedings Fund with a $500,000 endowment and administers the fund.
