Ontario Bar Association names Maija Laitinen as new policy and professional development lawyer

The Ontario Bar Association recently named Maija Laitinen its policy and professional development lawyer.

In her new role, Laitinen will work with OBA staff members and other lawyers to develop professional development programs while playing a key role in the OBA’s advocacy and policy development. She will also help identify issues of importance, coordinate with decision-makers and communicate legislative and policy updates to the membership.

Laitinen “brings a level of knowledge and experience that will give legal professionals the tools they need to thrive within a rapidly modernizing world of law, while also ensuring that Ontarians have the access to the justice they deserve,” the OBA said in a press release.

Laitinen recently served as a staff lawyer at Algoma Community Legal Clinic — a Sault Ste. Marie-based law firm funded by Legal Aid Ontario. She also gained legal experience working at the Human Rights Legal Support Centre and Crown attorney’s office.

“Maija will be a key part of how we expand upon this to help lawyers — including those in the province’s northeast region — grow their practices, while having more access to the tools and services they need to become more modern, productive and accessible,” OBA president Karen Perron said.
