Sotos LLP litigation partner Mohsen Seddigh has been elected the second vice-president of the Ontario Bar Association.

Seddigh’s term begins on September 1. He will become the association’s president in 2028.

As a litigation practitioner, he has tackled domestic and cross-border litigation involving corporate/commercial, real estate, competition, consumer, and regulatory law. His franchise industry practice concentrates on the real estate, restaurant, and home services sectors.

Seddigh has appeared as counsel in the Supreme Court of Canada. He is an adjunct professor of law at the University of Windsor, according to LinkedIn.

He is part of the Canadian Bar Association, the Law Society of Ontario, the Canadian Franchise Association, and the International Franchise Association. Moreover, he has volunteered and served as duty counsel at Pro Bono Ontario.

Seddigh is presently the OBA’s treasurer. He will be succeeded by current board and council secretary Melanie Webb (Webb Barristers), in that role.

“My path to practicing law in Canada has shaped my belief in the importance of opportunity, community and service. In my new leadership role, I hope to support the profession in a world of exponential change – to ensure that we are able to thrive as technology increasingly disrupts our sector, that we are able to build a strong community in an increasingly polarized society, and that we are equipped to protect the rule of law as it comes increasingly under threat around the world,” Seddigh said in a statement.

Seddigh and Webb are joined on the OBA board by newly elected board secretary Antoine Collins, an adjudicator with Refugee Protection Division of the Immigration and Refugee Board of Canada; new professional development chair Paul Lomic, Lomic Law founder and intellectual property lawyer; and new sections chair Katie Di Tomaso, a Stieber Berlach civil litigation lawyer.

Regional leads from Ontario’s eight judicial regions will be elected in June.

The current OBA board is led by president Katy Commisso (Buset LLP) alongside first vice-president Mariam Moktar (Paliare Roland Rosenberg Rothstein LLP), and second vice-president Brenda Hollingsworth (Auger Hollingsworth Professional Corporation).
