He will manage the innovation, legal support, commercial analysis, and national operations functions
Dentons Canada has bolstered its leadership team with the appointment of David Cohen as its first chief transformation officer.
Cohen stepped into the role earlier today October 27. He brings almost 20 years of experience in consulting and law firm management.
As chief transformation officer, he will spearhead Dentons Canada’s strategic initiatives to stay up to date as legal processes, pricing, and client service models are modernized. He will also manage the firm’s innovation, legal support, commercial analysis, and national operations functions.
“As our industry undergoes rapid change, agility and innovation are essential to sustaining growth and client trust. I’m energized to join a strategic leadership team focused on driving operational excellence at a pivotal time for the firm,” Cohen said in a statement.
Cohen started as a commercial litigator after his Federal Court clerkship. He is knowledgeable on topics like alternative fee arrangements, legal project management, and the transformative impact of AI in the legal industry, on which he has often spoken and written.
He received a joint LLB/MBA from Osgoode Hall Law School and the Schulich School of Business. He was called to the Ontario bar in 2005 and is a certified Six Sigma Green Belt. He also holds a bachelor's degree in psychology from Western University.
Dentons Canada CEO Tim Haney explained that innovation was at the center of the firm’s strategy; thus, Cohen’s experience in business operations and technology was an asset to the firm.
“Our clients face the same challenges we do—balancing innovation, efficiency and risk. They’re looking for more than legal advisors; they want partners who lead through change. By aligning our operations with the evolving expectations of global clients, we’re ensuring that our own transformation strengthens the intelligent, tech-enabled solutions they rely on,” partner Andrea Johnson said.
Cohen is based in Toronto.
