The University of Toronto faculty of law announced a memorial fund this week, in the wake of the death of a 2012 graduate.

The winner of the Justin Basinger Memorial Award will be chosen by a panel based on the best submission for the Indigenous Law Journal.

The award honours the Métis heritage of Basinger, who served as the Vice President of the Board at Aboriginal Legal Services in Toronto.

Basinger also worked as a solicitor with the City of Toronto specializing in employment law.
