Ontario’s Criminal Injuries Compensation Board will accept applications only until 11:59 p.m. on Sept. 30.

Beginning Oct. 1, individuals seeking compensation for costs that result from being a victim of crime should contact the Victim Quick Response Program +, according to an announcement on Sept. 6 from Social Justice Tribunals Ontario.

After the deadline, applications for compensation, requests for review hearings or applications to vary an order for compensation can no longer be filed with the CICB, the announcement said. However, it will continue to process all applications and requests received on or before Sept. 30, according to its regular processes.

Furthermore, as of Oct. 1, any appeals arising from applications can no longer be commenced with the Divisional Court. All appeals filed with the Divisional Court prior to the said date will continue in its regular course.

At least one clinic, the HIV & AIDS Legal Clinic Ontario, said it is encouraging clients to get legal help as soon as possible if they hope to apply to the CICB.
