Davies Ward Phillips & Vineberg LLP has announced the addition of Molly Luu, who focuses her practice on tax litigation, as a partner in its tax group in the Toronto office.

Luu assists clients with tax controversies at all levels of taxation – including reviews, audits, and administrative objections – both in the courts and beyond.

She has frequently had speaking engagements centred on tax litigation topics and types of privilege, including solicitor-client privilege and common-interest privilege.

“A natural problem solver, she is able to quickly home in on the key issues and find creative solutions,” Davies said, describing Luu.

According to her website profile, Luu garnered experience as investigative tax counsel who routinely helped her clients review unintended tax consequences. Her profile stated that she swiftly identifies the root of an issue and works efficiently to address the problem, including through less obvious creative solutions.

Luu’s background

Her LinkedIn page provided more information on her professional and educational background. From January 2020 until she joined Davies, she worked as a partner in the tax disputes resolution group in Miller Thomson LLP’s Toronto office.

Luu practised civil and tax litigation at Speigel Nichols Fox LLP in Mississauga, first as a partner from January 2019 to December 2019 and as an associate from September 2012 to December 2018.

Luu worked as a product development summer analyst for the Canadian Depository for Securities Limited from April 2008 to September 2008. In this role, she reviewed, edited, and helped with contracts, renewal terms, and product proposal drafts.

She obtained admission to the Ontario bar in 2011, her JD from the University of Western Ontario in 2010, and her BCom (first class honours) from Queen's University in 2007.
