Minister of Justice and Attorney General of Canada Sean Fraser announced the appointments of Julie Audet as regional senior judge of the Ontario Superior Court of Justice for the East Region and Gabrielle M.S. Beaulieu as a judge of the Family Court in Ottawa.

Audet replaces Justice C.U.C. MacLeod, who returned to the regular complement of active judges effective September 14. Beaulieu replaces Audet, whose appointment as regional senior judge took effect on October 15.

Audet, who is fluently bilingual, has served on the Superior Court's Family Court in Ottawa since 2017. She previously practised as a family lawyer, mediator and collaborative practitioner in Ottawa and Eastern Ontario.

She graduated with highest honours from the University of Ottawa's National Program in 1996 and completed a master of laws in family law at Osgoode Hall Law School in 2011.

Audet also co-founded ALT Divorce and Family Law In A Box, two companies that provide family law services and educational programs to the public.

Beaulieu founded Orbis - Beaulieu Professional Corporation in Ottawa. She holds a civil law and Juris Doctor degree from the University of Ottawa and a master of laws in international law from Loyola University in Chicago, specializing in family and children's law.

Called to the Ontario bar in 2012, Beaulieu began her career articling at the House of Commons' office of the law clerk and parliamentary counsel. She subsequently focused on family law, working as a lawyer, collaborative practitioner, mediator and children's lawyer.

Beaulieu has taught family law at the University of Ottawa and held visiting professorships at the University of Calgary, the University of Saskatchewan, and the University of Windsor.

She has also developed legal resources and delivered training to legal professionals, practitioners assisting victims of violence and self-represented litigants.

Beaulieu serves on the County of Carleton Law Association board and previously served for seven years on the Vanier Community Service Centre board.

“I wish Justices Audet and Beaulieu every success as they take on their new roles. I am confident they will serve the people of Ontario well as members of the Superior Court of Justice of Ontario,” Fraser said in a statement.
