Borden Ladner Gervais LLP (BLG) has announced the appointment of Gus Karantzoulis – a financial services group member and partner in the Toronto office – as the firm’s national group head, specialized business law.

Karantzoulis has been Toronto regional leader of the firm’s structured finance and securitization group. He joined the firm’s partnership board in 2019, became its chair in 2023, and is now its outgoing chair, according to BLG’s news release.

In his new role as a group head, he belongs to the firm’s national management committee. He will help develop the firm’s general direction and operations and assist its national specialized business law group with its business strategy, financial performance, and client service delivery.

“On behalf of all members of the firm, I want to thank Gus for his ongoing leadership and service to BLG, and congratulate him on this new appointment,” said David Di Paolo, BLG’s national managing partner and new chief executive officer, in the news release.

Karantzoulis takes over from Stephen Redican, who held the position for two terms, starting in 2019. Redican was previously a partnership board member and Toronto regional group manager for specialized business law.

“We thank Stephen for his leadership and significant contributions to the group and the firm over the past several years,” BLG’s news release said.
