Loopstra Nixon creates opportunity for students to become credentialed AI leaders

Toronto law firm summer students to participate in prestigious MIT certificate as part of 2L summer program

Loopstra Nixon LLP announced today that students joining its 2L summer program will have the opportunity to enroll in MIT Professional Education's course, Applied Agentic AI for Organizational Transformation, and earn an MIT certificate as part of their summer at the firm.

The program is an eight-week online course taught by MIT faculty covering the foundations of generative and agentic AI, enterprise integration, governance and compliance, and the deployment of AI within organizations. Participants complete weekly applied projects and a capstone AI adoption plan and receive a certificate from MIT Professional Education on successful completion. The firm will fund enrolment for its 2L summer students.

The student offering extends a firm-wide commitment to AI education at Loopstra Nixon. A cohort of the firm's equity partners are already enrolled in the same MIT program, earning their certificates and building a shared foundation in the technology at the ownership level. Summer students will follow the path the firm’s partners have taken themselves.

“Our partnership is committed to seeking out and adopting best practices for the responsible use of AI,” said Peter Saad, managing partner of Loopstra Nixon. “By investing in continuous learning, first among our partners and now among our summer students, we are strengthening our ability to use these tools responsibly and effectively to better support our clients.”

Summer students will finish their time holding the same MIT credential as the firm’s senior lawyers and come away with a real working understanding of the technology that will define their careers, Saad added.

“We think that is what the most ambitious students are looking for, and they are exactly who we want.”

Elliot Saccucci, partner and leader of the firm's student programs, agreed, saying that Loopstra Nixon has “set a course to redefine the modern law firm.”

“Our commitment to agility and client service means investing in our people and embracing cutting-edge tools. We’re proud to accomplish both of those things through our student program,” said Saccucci. “Pairing hands-on legal experience with structured AI education from MIT gives our students something no memo-writing exercise can: fluency in the technology their clients are already asking about.”

The course requires no technical background and is designed for working professionals, with asynchronous lectures, weekly live sessions with MIT artificial intelligence faculty, and applied assignments.
