In his new role, D’Silva will be part of a small group of worldwide arbitrators to hear professional and amateur sports cases brought to the CAS, the law firm said in a statement. Disputes are either commercial or disciplinary, such as doping-related cases.
The CAS has jurisdiction over all Olympic international federations and many amateur and professional sports.
D’Silva, who was called to the Ontario bar in 1989, is an expert in international arbitration and sports law. Outside of sports law, he also has expertise in the areas of class actions, corporate/commercial disputes, securities litigation, professional negligence and directors’ and officers’ claims.
He has acted as counsel in more than 200 publicly reported cases in courts of all levels. D’Silva has also acted as a mediator, arbitrator and an expert witness in Canadian courts.
In 2015, D’Silva received the University of Ottawa Faculty of Law's alumni award and was inducted to the Common Law Honour Society, considered to be law school's most prestigious alumni distinction.
