New site launches as bencher election set to begin

With issues such as alternative business structures on the agenda, candidates in the 2015 Law Society of Upper Canada bencher elections will have lots to discuss this year.

Of course, there will be plenty of other issues as well: diversity and the experience of visible minorities in the legal profession, articling and the law practice program, access to justice, and concern about the number of solicitors among bencher ranks. With the deadline for nominations this Friday, Law Times is launching a special web site dedicated to coverage of the bencher election at lawtimesnews.com/2015bencherelection. We’ll have stories every week, information on the election and candidates, and poll questions for readers to weigh in on the issues in advance of the April 30 vote. The new web site launches today with a story featuring two former law society treasurers offering their views on some of the issues they expect to be hearing about during the election.
