The Law Society of Ontario, along with ARCH Disability Law Centre, will host a discussion panel about accessibility at administrative tribunals on June 5 at the society’s headquarters in Toronto.

The panel is part of the National AccessAbility Week 2019, which seeks to raise awareness of accessibility and inclusion issues across various sectors of Canadian society. It focuses on the Human Rights Tribunal and the Landlord and Tenant Board, and the speakers will discuss procedural accommodations for persons with disabilities to ensure equal access to administrative tribunals, the society said in an announcement.

It will also address recent case law related to procedural accommodations and explore creative strategies to address barriers faced by persons with disabilities in accessing this system.

The panel’s speakers are Ena Chadha, human rights lawyer and chairwoman of the Human Rights Legal Support Centre’s board of directors; Karen Andrews, staff lawyer at Advocacy Centre for Tenants Ontario and acting director, Tenant Duty Counsel Program; and Wade Poziomka, human rights lawyer and partner at Ross & McBride LLP.

Jessica De Marinis of ARCH Disability Law Centre will be the moderator, while Malcolm Mercer, treasurer of the Law Society of Ontario, and Roberto Lattanzio, executive director of ARCH Disability Law Centre, will give the opening remarks for the program.

The panel will be held from 4 p.m. to 6 p.m., followed by a networking reception from 6 p.m. to 7:30 p.m.
